What’s in it for me
Experience
As you set your goals as a student at USF, research is an important step to consider. Through research projects, you as a student can gain the skills necessary for exploration, problem-solving and for oral and written expression that can serve well for a lifetime of learning, work and pleasure. Participation in the research process allows you to appreciate arts, humanities, sciences and social sciences in a way not otherwise possible.
Network
Not only does research allow you to apply the knowledge you gain in classes, many graduate and professional schools are now considering it an integral part of a well-rounded candidate. Not to mention that, by doing research as an undergraduate with UR USF, you will become part of a thriving Research Community including the support and guidance of an amazing group of Faculty Mentors including many at our own College of Medicine.
Skill Set
Once you’re connected with UR USF,you can sample numerous research projects, apply for research grants, receive credit for research, travel to conferences, publish, get involved with the community and gain in-depth knowledge of your topic by staying with one mentor for a long-term placement if you wish. You can even major in Research! Many of the skills you’ll gain were often kept for graduate students, but all of this can happen while you are still an undergraduate! What a great advantage if you get involved.
Contribution
Research is the main conduit for improving our world by better understanding its processes. Diseases and disabilities are conquered, the mind’s intricacies are illuminated, cultures and phenomena are discovered and interpreted, literary and historical works and figures are brought to life. And with those new discoveries, connections are drawn, which illustrates what a contribution you’d be making as a student researcher to yourself, your community, and, potentially, the world at large.
