UGRB
A student-run board involved in promoting undergraduate research. Please contact the current president Jenny Greene at jagreene@mail.usf.edu for information on the next meeting. You may also find more information about UGRB events on the Research Blackboard or on their upcoming website. You can find more information here.
Research for Credit
Students may be eligible to receive credit for their research through the Honors College or their major department. The course title through honors is IDH 4910 Directed Study: Undergraduate Research. Those who wish to receive credit for their research may speak to Ms. Penny Carlton. Please set a meeting using the Meeting Request function after you login below. It is highly recommended that you do research with a professor for at least one term before doing so for credit.
Mentor in Residence Program
Each term UR will bring a new Mentor-in-Residence—an esteemed Faculty Mentor from another scholarly institution—to campus for a two-day visit.
Our first Mentor-in-Residence, in 2006, was Dr. Nicole Bennett of Appalachian State University followed by Dr. Diane Purkiss of Oxford University in 2007. Last year, we chose one of our own, the esteemed, Dr. Susan MacManus along with astronaut Dr. Millie Hughes-Fulford of UC San Fransisco.

UR Grants/Travel Awards
Competitive grants are offered each term of up to $500 are offered research supplies and/or stipends. We encourage student researchers to work with their faculty mentors to complete the applications, so that students can learn about the grant process. We are currently accepting applications for Spring and Summer 2009.
Travel grants of up to $600 are also available to any student who has his/her research accepted for presentation at a conference or other academically-recognized program. The deadline is ongoing; students should submit their applications as soon as they receive formal word of acceptance along with receipts for any expenses already incurred. Currently, due to budget restrictions, we are only reimbursing airfare/mileage, hotel registration, and conference registration.
Discovery Research Scholars
Students are selected to become UR Discovery Research Scholars based upon exceptional high school academic achievement and superior SATI/EACT scores. In general, students are invited to participate by the Dean of the Honors College, Dr. Stuart Silverman, and the Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research, Dr. Naomi Yavneh.
Workshops and Student Assistance
Rachelle Hostetler, one of our Graduate Assistants, is available to meet with you about submitting or presenting your work as well as grant proposals. Please contact her at rhostetler@honors.usf.edu for more information. We also offer workshops throughout the term.
