UR USF Research Grants

Research Grants ($500): Students engaged in a clearly-defined research, scholarship or creative activity that is expected to lead to a tangible product (conference presentation, poster, article, performance, thesis) are eligible to apply. Generally, students should be participating in research for a minimum of 8-hours a week, although exceptions may be made. The application, available from the Office of Undergraduate Research and on-line at www.ur.usf.edu, requires a brief description of the project and its significance, a time-line for the project, a plan for dissemination of results, a budget and supporting documentation from the faculty mentor. Students seeking support for travel for field work should apply for this grant, rather than the travel award.

Normally, research grant money will not be awarded for projects conducted as part of coursework. Students may, however, apply for grants to support thesis research or to expand substantively on research begun as coursework in a previous semester. Students conducting research for pay (including Discovery and McNair scholars) or credit (including thesis research) may apply only for funds to cover research-related expenses; all others may request the money as a stipend. The total amount of the grant will not exceed $500.

The upcoming deadlines are:

September 26 for Fall 2007
November 16 for Sprring 2008
