UGRB Officers
UGRB is the Undergraduate Research Board for students interested in promoting Undergraduate Research. The board is officially recognized by USF as a student group and participates in many on-campus events such as orientation. They also take exploratory trips to community institutions conducting research. Meetings are now on Wednesday at 5pm. Please join the group on OASIS to get more information.
UGRB Officer Biographies
Jose Dieppa (Tony)
Jose is a student in the USF Computer Science program. Originally hailing from the Florida Institute of Technology, Jose's research pursuits and interests include computer and network security, and computer game design. He is currently actively pursuing research in security policy enforcement and is also a member of the ACM.
Elisa McQueen
Elisa McQueen is a junior at USF, majoring in Microbiology. She studied for a year at the Moffitt Cancer Center, researching the immunological effects of Revlamid on leukocytes. During that time, she also participated in the SPARK internship at Moffitt. Additionally, she is currently a section editor for CONJURE, USF’s undergraduate research journal. Her current research is a collaborative project, involving both the College of Engineering and the College of Visual and Performing Arts. They are manipulating wheelchair designs to improve the mobility of disabled dancers and facilitate their involvement in dance performances.
Salman Khan
Salman Khan is a senior at the USF Honors College majoring in Biomedical Sciences. He has conducted research at Neurostructural Labs, under the mentorship of Dr. Ronald Mervis, on the effects of human umbilical cord blood on neurons of the aging rat brain, won first place at the 4 th Annual USF Undergraduate Research Symposium, and presented at the 36 th Annual Society for Neuroscience Conference. Salman is also a section editor of CONJURE (USF's journal of undergraduate research)
Katie ProsenKatie is a junior in the Microbiology program at USF. She does research on the detection of E. coli O157:H7 in food, with a particular interest in the applications of bacteriophages in this area. Her passion is the study of Phage Therapy as a treatment for multi-antibiotic resistant bacteria. She also minors in the Russian Language. In addition to the Undergraduate Research Board, Katie is an active member of the University Emergency Medical Students Association (UEMSA).
Daryl Flink
Daryl Flink is a senior majoring in Psychology with a minor in Behavioral Healthcare. Daryl is also the president and founder of the Active Minds USF chapter. He first got involved with research through a summer research internship with the Florida Mental Health Institute (FMHI) in 2005. Since then he has worked with his mentor Dr. Kathleen Moore, on a co-occurring mental health and substance abuse research project and has presented this research at four conferences. Daryl also teaches classes at a drop-in center for clients with mental health disorders.
James Hudson
James Hudson is a junior at USF, who is majoring in Biology and research and minoring in International Studies and German. James intends to continue work in research in an undetermined area. He plans on going to graduate school for study in a concentration of either Biology or International studies. James has done research in an organic chemistry laboratory at West Virginia University and has participated in SPARK and further research at the Moffitt Cancer Center. James is also the president of Peace @ Large, USF Chapter.
